The electric i7 has received a special edition.
When it comes to BMW, the term “most powerful electric model in history” carries weight. For the Bavarian manufacturer, this means a total of 650 horsepower, more than any other electric car with an M badge. The car was recently unveiled at the Auto Shanghai show in China, and first deliveries are expected in the second half of this year.
Its name is i70, and compared to the previous iXdrive60, it brings as much as 25.5 percent more power to the rear end. The rear electric motor now produces 489 horsepower, the front 258, and together about 660 horsepower. The electric “seven” allegedly weighs over 2.8 tons, but with active Launch Control and boost function, it literally catapults and reaches 100 km/h in less than 4 seconds.
Specifically, the Bavarians mention 3.7 seconds for acceleration to 100 km/h and a maximum speed of 250 km/h. It’s no wonder that a larger 101.7 kWh capacity battery is installed, so this beast doesn’t have a modest range – the WLTP says 488 to 560 km with charging power up to 195 kW. And there is the Max Range function that limits power and speed to 90 km/h and increases range by 25 percent.
You will recognize the M70 by its more aggressively styled front end, two-tone body, and 21-inch wheels that reveal M Sport brake discs.
It is too early to talk about prices. Currently, the i7 starts at 139,900 euros in Germany, and the M70 could go over 150,000 euros. For example, the top version of the EQS model costs 155,000 euros.
